Abandoned Villas in Kocaeli Spark Curiosity
The claim that 31 luxury villas left to their own devices in Darıca district belong to FETÖ (Fethullah Terrorist Organization) has sparked curiosity in the region as it circulated on the internet. It was learned that approximately 28 years ago, construction of the villas was halted due to non-compliance with zoning regulations, and rumors do not reflect the truth.
The rumors that 31 luxury villas, located on a hill facing the sea in Pirireis neighborhood, Yelkenkaya area of Darıca, which have been under construction for about 28 years, belong to FETÖ stirred curiosity about these villas when they spread on the internet.
It was discovered that the claim causing confusion did not actually reflect the truth. Construction activities were ceased 28 years ago due to non-compliance with zoning regulations, as the construction of 31 villas instead of 21 on the 13,000 square meter plot of land allocated for the Resort Yelkenkaya Project violated the zoning regulations.
While the 31 villas under construction turned into ruins, the area has become a gathering place for those who consume alcohol and narcotics. Local residents who are disturbed by this situation are demanding the area to be cleaned up and the part of the land owned by the Treasury to be opened to the public.
"We want this place to be cleaned up and opened to the public immediately," says Furkan Bölük, a resident of the neighborhood, sharing what he knows about the issue. "There have been villas here for over 20 years. There is a lot of alcohol and drug use here.
There are even cases of people drinking and driving their cars into the sea. We have heard of some suicide incidents happening here as well. Although our law enforcement tries to take measures, I don't think it's enough. We want this place to be cleaned up and opened to the public immediately.
As residents of the neighborhood, we don't believe that the villas belong to FETÖ, and we have heard that this is not the case. We have no idea who owns the villas. We know that there is a zoning problem because the villas were built before the earthquake regulations. We know that the legal process regarding the villas is ongoing."
