Turkey's first astronaut, Alper Gezeravcı, was involved in a traffic accident. Gezeravcı and two others sustained minor injuries in the incident.
Emergency services and police were dispatched to the scene after a report was made to the 112 Emergency Call Center. The injured were taken to the hospital for further examination and treatment, and it has been confirmed that their conditions are stable.
"No Injuries Detected" Kocaeli Governor Seddar Yavuz, who visited the hospital to check on Gezeravcı's condition, stated that the accident occurred when a service vehicle rear-ended the car Gezeravcı was in on the D-100 highway. He noted that Gezeravcı and the other two individuals were brought to the hospital as a precaution. "All necessary examinations were conducted, and no injuries were detected. He is at the hospital for precautionary purposes. We wish him a speedy recovery," Yavuz said.
Meeting with Students in Bursa and Yalova Yesterday, Alper Gezeravcı met with students at the BTSO Education Valley Oğuz Kağan Köksal Conference Hall in Bursa. Gezeravcı, who received a warm welcome, shared insights into space science, his career, and his experiences. During the interactive session, he recounted his space journey, answered students' questions, and highlighted the significance of space exploration. After the two-hour event, Gezeravcı took photos with the students.
This morning, Gezeravcı traveled to Yalova, where he met with students at the Raif Dinçkök Cultural Center in an event organized by the Yalova Provincial Directorate of National Education. He spoke about his inspiring space journey and Turkey's future space projects, revealing plans to launch Turkey's first rocket to the Moon between 2026 and 2028. He also announced that Turkey's satellite, which is 80% domestically produced, will be launched into space on July 8. Gezeravcı departed Yalova around 12:30 PM.
